The 4th International Symposium on Ethical Literary Criticism Successfully Held in Shanghai Jiaotong University
With the waning tide of ethical criticism in the West in the late 1990s, ethical literary criticism has surprisingly met its renaissance in East Asia in the first decade of the 21st century, which in turn arrests increasing attention from Western academics. Such a scholarly exchange has been most recently promoted and strengthened by the 4th International Symposium on Ethical Literary Criticism, which highlights the ethical value of literature and sees highly the role played by ethical selection in the history of human civilization. Against the global context of literary studies, the symposium is saliently marked by its transdisciplinary, transnational, and transgeneric perspectives on ethical literary criticism as a critical theory and its practice in a wide range of literary texts.
