The 9th International Symposium on Ethical Literary Criticism Successfully Held in Zhejiang University, China
In the past 15 years, remarkable progress has been made in the theoretical formulation and critical practices of Ethical Literary Criticism (ELC) proposed by Professor Nie Zhenzhao as an effort to refigure western literary theory system, facilitate cultural communication, and construct Chinese academic discourse. At the 9th International Symposium on ELC held in 2019, participants and scholars around the world gathered in Hangzhou for the common purpose of discussing such key topics as core concepts, theoretical formulation, and criticism practices of ELC, offering illuminating ideas on issues concerning the reinterpretation of classical literature, literature development in the digital age, narratological studies, as well as national and comparative literature in relation to ELC. Serving as a cross-disciplinary, cross-cultural, and trans-national forum featured openness and inclusiveness, the conference has advanced the development of literary studies in a new age.
