Abstract:
Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the performance of impacted third molars surgery under general anesthesia. Methods: 200 patients operated between January 2008 and December 2013 were enrolled in this retrospective study. The causes of extraction operation, clinical signs and symptoms of impacted wisdom teeth, and postoperative complications were recorded and analyzed. Results: All 645 impacted third molars from 200 patients were successfully extracted under general anesthesia. The most frequent operative indication was pericoronitis. No complications were related to general anesthesia. Dry socket occurred in 1 case, local infection occurred in 2 cases. There was neurological complication for the inferior alveolar nerve in 4 cases, the symptoms were transient. Conclusion: This surgical technique offers comfort and security for both surgeons and patients. The incidence of complications is in agreement with the literature data. This approach should be promoted.
