一．Editorial Policy
1. Review System
After submission, the editorial office will conduct a preliminary review of the manuscript. The editorial office will reject manuscripts that are insufficient in originality, have serious scientific or technical mistakes, lack valuable information, or are not in the scope of the journal. Manuscripts that have passed the preliminary review will undergo peer review. The journal adopts a single-blind review system. The manuscript will be sent to two peer reviewers. Authors must respond to reviewers' every comment and submit the revised version on time. This process would be repeated until reviewers and editors are satisfied with the manuscript. The editorial office will select manuscripts fairly based on academic quality and the review comments. The editor-in-chief will make the final decision on whether the manuscript will be published.
2.Academic Misconduct Detection
All submitted manuscripts are checked for plagiarism using the Academic Misconduct Literature Detection System for scientific journals (CNKI, Wanfang). The similarity rate for Basic Scientific Study papers is controlled below 10%, while other types of papers are controlled below 15%.
3. Correction and Retraction
After publishing, if there appears to be an unintended scientific mistake in the article that would not lead to significant impacts on the results and conclusion, the editorial office will publish corrections in the journal as soon as possible, and detailing the changes made to the original article. If severe scientific errors are found in published articles, or the article is suspected of academic misconduct, such as plagiarism and data falsification, the editorial office will issue a statement to inform readers of the risks, initiate an investigation, and announce the final result, or even retract the article with a retraction statement if necessary.
二．Publication Ethics
Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery(CN) follows recognized guidelines of publication ethics by international organizations (e.g. ICMJE, COPE, etc.). We firmly oppose plagiarism in any form. The editors, authors, and reviewers of the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery should perform the following duties (not limited to these) and adhere to the requirements of the journal.
I. For Authors
1.1Authors should not submit the same manuscript or similar content to more than one journal concurrently.
1.2Authors must ensure the manuscript has not been published previously (partly or in full).
1.3Authors must ensure that there is no plagiarism. References must be properly cited, and the sources should be clearly indicated within the manuscript.
1.4 Authorship must simultaneously meet the following four criteria:
1.4.1 Make significant contributions to the conception or design of the study, or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the study;
1.4.2 Draft the research paper or critically revise it for important intellectual content;
1.4.3Approve the final version to be published;
1.4.4Agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work, ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
Individuals who do not meet all the four criteria could be acknowledged in the “Acknowledgments” section if consent is obtained.
1.5Authors must ensure that the content in the manuscript does not involve state secrets, does not violate the relevant national regulations on text, graphics, etc., and does not harm national sovereignty and interests.
1.6Authors must explicitly inform the editorial office if the research results in the article have obtained a patent application number (or patent right).
1.7Authors must ensure that no data have been fabricated or manipulated (including images) to support the conclusions.
1.8Upon submission, authors should disclose all funding information for their research findings, as well as any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest that may bias their research results and paper writing.
1.9Authors should proactively report their contributions and any conflicts of interest when submitting to the journal. Please refer to the "Authors Statement Form" in the "Download Center."
2.Medical Ethics
The ethical issue and informed consent of the study must comply with common principles of medical ethics. If the subject of the paper involves human participants, the author must provide approval documents from an institutional, regional, or national ethics committee (the approval number should be included in the article). It should be ensured that the research subjects or their families have signed the informed consent form, but the form does not need to be submitted to the editorial office. In studies involving experimental animals, approval documents and approval numbers from the institution's animal ethics committee must be provided. Authors should pay attention to protecting patient privacy, ensuring faces are covered, and avoiding exposure of patient names, identification numbers, or other personal information in specimens and imaging materials.
3. Clinical Trial Registration
For all clinical trial research (prospective studies), authors are generally required to register with the WHO International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (https://www.who.int/ictrp/en/) or the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (http://www.chictr.org.cn/) and indicate the clinical trial registration number in the manuscript.
4.Advertisement Policy
Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery(CN) does not accept advertising. No commercial advertisements will be published in the journal or on the journal’s official website.
三．Generative AI Policy
1. General Principles
Generative artificial intelligence (AI-generated content, AIGC) tools cannot be listed as authors of a paper. Authors bear full responsibility for all content of the paper, including any part completed with the assistance of AIGC. All content constituting a scientific contribution or intellectual work must be produced by the authors. Key components—including the research hypothesis, methods, results, and the discussion and conclusions drawn from the results—must be written by the authors and must not be generated by AIGC.
2. Research and Manuscript Preparation
Information gathering: In literature searching, concept clarification, and viewpoint collection, AIGC may serve only as an auxiliary tool for reference. Authors must perform thorough manual verification—confirming the authenticity of references, checking the accuracy of concepts, and screening for bias—and bear full responsibility for the scientific validity and impartiality of the content ultimately adopted.
Writing: AIGC may be used to improve readability, strengthen logical flow, and suggest sentence structure. It must not be used to write the full text, interpret data, or draw scientific conclusions.
Language polishing: Use of AIGC solely for language polishing, grammar checking, or Chinese–English translation is not considered a violation of this policy but must still be disclosed. Before entering a manuscript into an AIGC tool, authors must obtain the consent of all co-authors and confirm that the tool's terms of service do not use the manuscript content for model training.
Images and figures: Key images presenting research results and data must derive directly from the actual research process and original data. Experimental or diagnostic images—such as Western blots, cell analysis images, histological staining, and radiological images—must not be generated or manipulated by AIGC. Local operations such as enhancing, blurring, moving, deleting, or artificially adding specific features are prohibited; adjustments to overall brightness, contrast, or color balance must not obscure or lose original image information; adding legends and annotations is permitted. Graphical abstracts must not be produced using AIGC. If a schematic diagram is drawn with the assistance of AIGC, this must be stated in the figure legend.
References: Unverified AIGC-generated references must not be used directly. Authors must verify item by item that each cited reference genuinely exists and matches the citation. AIGC-generated material must not be cited as an original reference.
Statistical analysis: AIGC may assist in selecting statistical methods or performing calculations, but authors must verify the statistical results. AIGC cannot replace the authors' independent interpretation and professional judgment of the data.
3. Disclosure
Where AIGC has been used in the research or manuscript preparation, authors must describe its use in detail at the end of the Methods section, including: the tool name and version, dates of use, the purpose and the specific parts of the paper where it was used, the key prompts entered, and, where necessary, annotation of assisted content involving facts or viewpoints. Authors bear full responsibility for the authenticity and accuracy of the content. Records of use, generated content, and the revision process must be retained by the authors and provided to the journal on request.
Suggested format: "In preparing [specific part], the authors used [tool name and version] to assist with [purpose]. The tool was used on [date], with the key prompt '[prompt]'. The authors have thoroughly reviewed and revised the generated content and take full responsibility for the content of this paper."
4. Peer Review Stage
Reviewers must not upload the full manuscript, core arguments, key data, or any other unpublished content to public AIGC tools, to prevent leakage of confidential information. Without uploading manuscript content, reviewers may use AIGC to improve the wording of their comments; if so, they must state the tool name in their review. Reviewers must ensure their comments fully and accurately reflect their own professional views and bear full responsibility for their conclusions.
Author responses: Authors must not upload the full review report, any section of it, or details that could identify reviewers to public AIGC tools. On the basis of their own understanding of the comments, authors may use AIGC to help organize or word their responses but bear full responsibility for the accuracy and professionalism of the responses.
Editorial office: Editors observe the same confidentiality requirements during manuscript handling.
5. Detection and Handling
The journal may screen submissions for AIGC use. Detection results serve only as an auxiliary clue for editorial verification and are not used alone as grounds for rejection; the editorial office will make a comprehensive judgment together with manual review and may ask authors for clarification. If authors use AIGC tools to directly generate manuscript text, figures, or other content without disclosure as required by this policy, the journal will treat it as academic misconduct.
This policy is formulated with reference to the Guidelines for the Boundaries of AIGC Use in Academic Publishing 3.0 (Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China, jointly with Elsevier, Springer Nature, et al., December 2025).
四．Data Sharing Policy
The Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (CN) encourages authors to make available the original data supporting their conclusions, to improve the transparency and reproducibility of research.
1. For manuscripts reporting the results of clinical trials (prospective studies), authors must provide a Data Sharing Statement at the end of the manuscript, indicating: (i) whether deidentified individual participant data will be shared; (ii) which specific data will be shared; (iii) whether related documents will be available (e.g., study protocol, statistical analysis plan, informed consent template); (iv) the beginning and end dates of data availability; (v) by what mechanism and under what conditions the data can be accessed (e.g., a designated repository, or upon request); and (vi) for what types of use. Authors may state that data will not be shared but must do so transparently.
2. For other study types (observational studies, basic research, etc.), authors are encouraged to provide a Data Availability Statement indicating whether and how the data can be accessed. Where data cannot be made public due to privacy, ethical, or legal restrictions, the reason should be stated.
3. The Data Sharing Statement will be published with the article. Editors may take it into consideration when making editorial decisions.
五．Complaints and Appeals
The Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (CN) handles complaints and appeals in accordance with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). This procedure applies to appeals against editorial decisions, complaints about process failures (such as long delays), and complaints against the journal or its staff.
1. A complaint or appeal is first handled by the Editor-in-Chief or the editor who handled the manuscript. If that editor is the subject of the complaint, it is referred to the senior officer of the editorial office.
2. An appeal must be supported by strong evidence or new data/materials. The Editor-in-Chief or handling editor will consider the author's arguments together with the reviewer reports and decide whether to uphold the original decision, seek an additional independent review, or reconsider the manuscript. As a rule, one appeal per article will be considered.
3. The editorial office handles all cases promptly, fairly, and confidentially, and informs the complainant of the outcome with an explanation where appropriate. The journal's final reply is the final decision.
4. If the complainant remains dissatisfied after the journal has completed the above process, they may refer the matter to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). COPE becomes involved only once the journal's own procedures have been exhausted.

六．Open Access
1.Open Access Statement
Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery(CN) flipped to an open access journal since the 1st issue of 2024. Since then, all articles once published are immediately and permanently available for readers to read and download free of charge. Articles published from 2012 to 2023 have been converted open access, and readers can freely access and download them from our website. Articles published before 2012 are not open access. The copyright of these articles is held by the journal’s editorial office.
2.License Policy
For all open access articles published by this journal, permitted authors and third-party reuse of the articles is defined by the following user license: Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). This license allows reusers to copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format. The licensor cannot revoke these freedoms as long as the license terms below are followed: reusers must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. Reusers may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses the use. Reusers may not use the material for commercial purposes. If reusers remix, transform, or build upon the material, they may not distribute the modified material. 3.Copyright Policy
Once a manuscript is accepted and published by the journal, authors are required to sign the Copyright Transfer Agreement with the editorial office of the journal. All authors of the article agree to transfer the copyright of the manuscript and its related supplementary materials, including but not limited to the rights of reproduction, distribution, distribution through information network, broadcasting, performance, translation, compilation, and adaptation to the editorial office of the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The transfer is valid for the duration of copyright protection and applies worldwide. The authors agree to the journal's open access policy, which allows the authors or the third-party users to copy and distribute the article under the Creative Commons license "Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International" (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0).
4.Article Archiving Policy
All articles published in this journal are digitally archived, with both the print and electronic versions stored in the editorial office. To ensure data security, all information and related materials, such as additional information and forms provided by the authors during submission, are also archived in the editorial office. In addition to the journal's official website, all articles published historically are fully stored in CNKI (China National Knowledge Infrastructure), Wanfang, Weipu, Chaoxing, and Xinhua Net Academic China. Readers can also access these articles through these databases or platforms.
5.Author Self-Archiving
The journal allows authors to store all versions of their articles in institutional or other repositories of their choice. The article's metadata in the repository must include the standardized journal publication information and be cited as the recommended reference.
七．Author Fees
A review fee of 50 RMB is required for submitted manuscripts. If the manuscript is accepted, a page fee of 300 RMB per page will be charged for basic research, clinical study, and review articles, with an additional 400 RMB per page for color pages. For clinical reports and case reports, a page fee of 500 RMB per page will be applied, with an additional 500 RMB per page for color pages，the highest fee charged for the article is 5300 RMB. Upon publication, the journal will pay remuneration to the authors in accordance with relevant national regulations and provide two copies of the current issue along with five reprints.
