Abstract: Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze biomechanical properties of poly-ether-ether-ketone biocomposited by nano-fluorapatite (nFA/PEEK) mini implant using a three-dimensional finite element software package. Methods: MIMICS software was applied to get CT data scanned maxillary bones in DICOM form. Alveolar bone block was further isolated, which mini-implant was clinically and commonly performed in mesial first molar areas. Mini-implants were inserted at 60°, 90° and 120° degrees respectively. Results: ABAQUS was used to load 100~400 g orthodontic force. The main stress was located bone bed around implant neck in an FA/PEEK microstrain nephogram. The maximum microstrain coincided with loading direction was 2 776 με, which was reduced to 0 in about 0.393 mm far away. Microstrain was focused in bone cortex layer coinciding implant axis, which was dropped in 1.2mm away. It was very small in the cancellous bone. The more deviation was from 90° implantation, the smaller strain was found. Stress in the same implant angle was found to be increased with more loading force. nFA/PEEK found larger than that of titanium alloy implant was in the range of 178.10~2 776.00 με, which maximum values was 400 g loading at 90°. Conclusions: The microstrain of nFA/PEEK is beneficial to bone deposition and coinciding with mechanical threshold theory of Frost. The findings provide solid basis in mechanics and have potential clinical benefits.
