Abstract:

Objective: The purpose of this investigation was to delineate the relationship between counting of peripheral blood lymphocyte and clinical prognosis in patients with advanced oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Methods: A retrospective analysis of 103 patients with advanced OSCC who received radical resection of primary tumor and cervical lymph node dissection from January 2014 to December 2017 and with complete clinical and follow-up data was performed. The patients were followed up for 2-70 months, with a median follow-up of 47 months. All patients were drawn venous blood samples at 1 week before surgery and 1 and 7 days after surgery for blood routine tests. The relationship between lymphocyte count and prognosis was analyzed. Univariate analysis of prognostic factors was performed by log-rank test. Results: Compared with the abnormal group, the normal peripheral blood lymphocyte counting group had a longer overall survival (OS) time at 1 week before surgery, which was statistically significant. There was no significant difference between the normal group and abnormal group in peripheral blood lymphocyte counting at 1 and 7 days after surgery. Conclusion: The above findings suggested that peripheral blood lymphocyte counting had a certain predictive value in the prognosis of advanced OSCC.
